Another interview, and catching up on tv

I've got another interview up at Daniel L Carter's blog.  Stop by, learn a little more about me, maybe check out his Unwanted Trilogy.

And to avoid spamming people, I'm going to take a moment to talk about my tv watching habits, and some of my favorite shows.

I'm not the most avant garde tv watcher.  I love movies, and am pretty quick to go watch the ones I like.  But with tv, I'm almost always behind by a season or so.  It's just hard for me to catch on, and I often avoid things because they're insanely popular.

Means I miss out on things right when they're happening.  I mean, I didn't even get into Battlestar Galactica until the start of the third season.

So, I hadn't started watching Dexter until last month.  And kinda kicked myself for not having watched it before.  I love everything about the show.  I loved to hate Rita, and laugh at Masuko's jokes.  It's well written, it's intelligent, and doesn't rely on coincidences.  It's a good show.

And I stayed up until 3 in the morning last night to finish watching season 4.  And was completely stunned at the ending.  Can't wait to start up on season 5.  Though the week to week part will kill me.  That's one of the reasons I like being behind; I can watch the whole season at once.

Are there any shows you've discovered after the crowd?

  1. I'm hardly ever up to date with my TV shows, either. For me, though, it's more like I'm behind by the entire SERIES rather than just a season! I like watching an entire tv show at once, much like books. I hate waiting for the next installment to come out, so I'd rather just wait a long time without knowing what I'm missing.

Dexter is such an amazing show. That has been the only show I've watched consistently since the first season. I could gush about Dexter all day, but I'm sure my fan-girling will just reaffirm your love for the show, too. Right?! :P

Among other TV shows I've discovered after the crowd... Hrm. Fringe and the Big Bang Theory. I think both of them were two seasons in (or maybe Fringe was just one season in) when I came across them. I've loved them ever since. :)

  2. Bones and NCIS didn't catch my interest until about season 3 of each. It was hard work catching up.

True Blood was another one I didn't think I'd be interested in, so I was late starting to watch it. Then I got so caught up in it that I borrowed the books to see what happens next.

This season I've started watching Lost Girl from the beginning - it's about a succubus, very cool.

  3. I don't watch any right now. But I started watching Lost after the first season.

  4. Laura, I never got into Lost. Though I knew many a person obsessing over it.

CR, I now have to look into Lost Girl. NCIS just didn't catch me, but I haven't caught anything of Bones. I'm craving Breaking Bad's next season a lot.

Kristina, Dexter, I KNOW! *fangirl* Everyone in our household was trying to figure out if we were SUPPOSED to hate Rita in season four, or if it was just our perceptions.

The writing and the pacing is great. One of the things I love is that the show doesn't rely on coincedental happenings to solve a plot. Dexter normally has to make his own way out of whatever stupid thing he's done.

I also like that he and the bad guys aren't stupid. They don't fail because suddenly they don't know how to do things.
